Eligibility

Nationality
The candidate must either be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal. Besides, the candidate can identify a person of Indian origin having migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, provided that a candidate belonging to the 2nd and 3rd categories above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will, however, not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
Age
The age to apply for the Army JAG post must fall in the range of 21 to 27 years. For instance, if you are applying for a 2020 job notification, then you should not be born earlier than 02 Jan 1994 and not later than 01 Jan 2000. Educational Qualification
Below is the educational qualification of the candidates for the application procedure:
- Law Graduate (3 year/5 year course) with minimum 55% aggregate marks.
- The candidates should be eligible for registration as an advocate with the Bar Council of India/State.
- The candidate should be from a College/University having recognition from the Bar Council of India.

Tenure of Engagement
Short Service Commission grants Male and females in the Regular Army for 14 years, i.e., for an initial period of 10 years, extendable by a further period of 04 years. Male & Female officers who are willing to continue to serve in the Army after the expiry of the period of ten years of Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) in the 10th year of their Short Service Commission in accordance with the relevant policies as issued from time to time.
Those SSC officers (male and female) who don’t make it for PC but are otherwise fit and appropriate may get the option to serve as SSCOs for a total of 14 years. Also, they may get a release from the army including the initial 10-year tenure.
Probation Period, Training Duration & Location
Once you start, you will have a probation period of 6 months. Besides, there will be an official training of 49 weeks at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.
Restriction On Marriage
A Candidate may not be able to marry during their training time, nor can he/she live with his/her parents or guardians. A candidate can not marry before the completion of the Officers Training Academy’s full training program. An applicant who marries after the date of his or her application is not qualified for training, even though he or she passes the Services Selection Board interview and medical test. If an applicant marries while undergoing training, he or she will be discharged and must reimburse the government for all expenses incurred on his or her behalf.
Pre-Commission Training
The University of Madras will grant a ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies’ to all candidates who successfully complete Pre-Commission training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai.
Cost of Training
The entire cost of training at OTA is at Government expense. In case the Lady/Gentleman cadet training withdrawal from the academy due to reasons other than Medical ground or the reasons not beyond his/her control, he/she will be liable to refund the cost of training. It will be @ ₹ 11,952/- per week till Sep. Besides, there will be an escalation of 8% p.a. on the basis of Per Capita Cost of Training for each. It is to ensure that the government of India can fix the applicable charges from time to time. The cost will be applicable for the period of his/her stay at OTA, Chennai.

- The candidates need to take out two copies of their application having Roll Number, 30 minutes after the final closure of the online application on the last day.
Indian Army JAG Recruitment 2020 Selection Criteria
